Juan Pablo is a senior at Brophy College Preparatory and interning at the Brophy Community Foundation. He plans to attend Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University

“My name is Juan Pablo Suarez Woolcott. Six years ago, my family and I embarked on a journey to the United States from Venezuela, seeking a brighter future. As first-generation immigrants, we faced numerous challenges, but hope remained our constant companion. Adapting to a new culture and overcoming language barriers significantly shaped who I am today.

Leaving the familiar behind in Venezuela was difficult, and my parents made immense sacrifices to ensure my well-being. Back in Venezuela, I attended a Catholic school until fifth grade. However, upon arriving in the U.S., the public middle school I attended felt isolating.

Everything changed when I started at Brophy College Preparatory. Brophy offered not just a great education but a supportive community that believed in me. I am immensely grateful to the Brophy Community Foundation donors for the incredible opportunities they provided.

Thanks to their support, I thrived at Brophy. I became president of the Hispanic Affinity Club, competed in varsity track and cross country, and even advocated for immigration and environmental issues before Arizona representatives in Washington, D.C.

In May 2024, I’ll graduate, ready to pursue Civil Engineering. This is my chance to show my parents that their sacrifices were worthwhile. Fueled by this gratitude and a desire to make a difference, I’m excited to pursue Civil Engineering at Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University.

Thank you to the Brophy Community Foundation for giving families like mine the hope and opportunity to ensure their children receive the education every high school student deserves. Your generosity has truly transformed my life.”
